WHAT IS NEWBORNS IN NEED?
In the summer of 1992, Carol Green of Houston, Missouri was dismayed to learn that many pediatric nurses spent their own money on
clothes for needy newborns. Sometimes, when a child would lose it's fight for life , hospital staff would have to bury them in paper sacks. 'Never again,' she told herself, 'at least not while I can do something
about it.' She started making calls to area hospitals, adoption agencies, crisis centers and homeless shelters to find out how she could help. The demand for baby items amazed her. Just one week later, on 7 July
1992, she created Newborns In Need. She began recruiting people from the local community to aide in her efforts and in March 1998, Newborns In Need, Inc. was formed with chapters across the United States.
NEWBORNS IN NEED is an non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization that makes and donates baby gowns, blankets, and other essential baby items
to hospitals, homeless shelters and other organizations that provide for premature and newborn infants. All items are donated completely free of any charge.
WHY NEWBORNS IN NEED?
Many of the babies we are helping do not have adequate clothing or blankets. Each year thousands of premature babies are
admitted for care to Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU). Due to the extremely small size of preemie babies, there is a shortage of hospital gowns, t-shirts and sleepers tiny enough for them to wear. Our
mission is to help all needy babies and toddlers to have adequate clothing and a warm blanket or quilt.
