Christmas starts early

Christmas Bag Project

Each year the Dallas Area Chapter attempts to provide   Christmas bags to each baby in Parkland Hospital on      Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. NIN provides the        hand-sewn  fabric bags and for each bag, a sleeper or gown, a hat, booties or socks, a receiving blanket, and a small     baby-safe snuggle toy. Parkland supplies pacifiers for each bag along with aneducational toy and a small. All items must be new and in excellent condition.

NIN and hospital volunteers accompany Santa to deliver a bag to each baby in the hospital on Christmas Eve. Any remaining bags are distributed to babies born on Christmas Day.

In 2007, we distributed 320 bags, 80 of which were preemie bags. Since our goals this year will be similar, we very much need new sleepers, gowns, and hatsthe following sizes:

Newborn, size 0-3 months & preemie, size 5-8 pounds

Also needed are 320 newborn socks and receiving blankets.

In 2007, on the day the bags were assembled the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit treated NIN volunteers to a beautiful “thank you” lunch where the staff made creative use of some of the donations as décor.  At the end of the day a thank you album complete with pictures of NIN donations was presented from the nurses to the volunteers.
