What Do We Need?

Newborns In Need chapters are completely staffed by volunteers, and our needs are met solely on a donation basis. This is either in the form of money, fabric, sewing notions, or time. Please spread the word to your family and friends! Many people will be inspired to sort through their “stash” and donate fabric if they know someone else will use it.

We have an ongoing need for a variety of items:

  • Knit fabrics
  • Flannel
  • Soft-n-Flexible Velcro
  • Baby yarn
  • Cotton quilting fabrics
  • Broadcloth
  • Satin
  • Serger thread, both construction and wooly nylon
  • 1/4” and 1/2” lace
  • Tiny ribbon bows & trims
  • Polar Fleece
  • Quilt Batting
  • Satin Blanket Binding
  • Postage Stamps
  • Copy paper & Cardstock ~ plain white as well as pastels

We will gratefully accept donations of any size, as many of the garments we produce can be made with as little as ¼ yd. of fabric and a few inches of lace. A 2” square of calico can go in a quilt. We can provide you with a receipt for your tax-deductible donations upon request.

Donations of new and gently used baby clothing and accessories are also welcome, and quickly used.

Afghans can be made in any size, from 15” square up to 36” square. Afghans in smaller sizes will be used exclusively in burial layettes, and should be in soft pastel colors or white, and lighter weight yarns. Larger afghans may be worsted weight, and brighter colors, though appropriate ones will also be used in burial layettes. Sewing patterns are available as a fundraiser from Newborns In Need for a cost of $5.00.
