Quilts and Afghans
Quilts are most popular in the 36”x45” size, though any size will be useable. These go home with needy babies.
Afghans can be knit or crocheted, any size from 15” square up to 36” square. Larger afghans in worsted weight yarns
will go home with babies, and can be brighter colored. Smaller sizes will be used in burial layettes, and should be pastel colors or white.
Burial Garments
One of the most heartbreaking, yet meaningful needs that we meet is the need for preemie and infant burial layettes. When a parent
loses a child, one of the most profound things we can do is be prepared to provide them with something they never expected to need: a beautiful gown, bonnet, booties and afghan, in a size to fit, no
matter how small.

Preemie Garments
We try to concentrate our efforts on producing items that cannot be purchased in stores. Store bought garments in preemie sizes are
usually meant for babies weighing 5-7#. Many times even these “preemie” garments are too large. Our seamstresses provide t-shirts, gowns and dresses in sizes beginning at 2#, which is the
average size that preemies in the hospital are stable enough to begin wearing clothes. This is a big “milestone” to a preemie parent, and having something to dress a 2# baby in helps to provide a bit of normalcy to an otherwise stressful postpartum time.
Clothing and other essential items
Gently used clothing and other essential baby items that are donated to us are given to Lakeshore
Pregnancy Center, Hackley Community Care Center, and other agencies that come in contact with needy families in the West Michigan area.
