Sewing Skill level - medium
GOWN: Right sides together, sew bodice lining to bodice at sleeve edges and neckline. Clip curves, turn right side out, press. Apply lace if desired. On dress only, right sides together, sew side seams from bottom (waist) to bottom of sleeve, tapering to edge at sleeve. Then do the same for the lining. (all raw edges will be hidden between the layers) Gather top edges of skirt and skirt lining and pin both to bodice, matching center fronts. Stitch. Finish back edges by serging or zigzag stitching lining and bodice back together. Leave back open, no fasteners. Finish hem as desired. Embellish gown as desired.
LINED BONNET: for bonnet and then for lining: right sides together, sew the back dart seams together, tapering and rounding into the top of the bonnet. Press. Right sides together, pin lining to hat, adding trim to front edge if desired (around the face) to match gown neckline, and sew along long front edge. Turn and presss. Baste lining and hat together at bottom edge. Now you have what looks like a box shape missing bottom and front side. Slightly gather the bottom edge, to about 5” for small or 6-7” for larger or stitch 1/8” elastic along bottom stretching slightly. Taking 25-30” piece of 1/4” ribon, pin each end to middle of back of bonnet bottom and extend each piece towards front. Top stitch the ribbon to the hat across the bottom. Leave the ribbon uncut in front - it will stay nicer without fraying, and the nurses will cut it when dressing baby. Embellish to match gown. OPTIONAL: make a matching hat in smaller size for parents to place in memory envelope.
