Pattern written by Marla Potter for Newborns in Need, Inc.

J hook
Chain 41
Row 1: Double crochet in 3rd chain from the hook and in each chain across. (first 2 chains count as first double crochet throughout whole pattern). Chain 2, turn.
Row 2-9: Double crochet in 2nd double crochet and each double crochet across. Chain 2, turn.
Row 10: Make 2 more double crochets in first double crochet from hook (you will have 3 double crochets including first 2 chains- they count as the first double crochet.) *skip next double crochet, single crochet in next double crochet, skip next double crochet, 3 double crochets in next double crochet. Continue from * across, ending with 3 dc shell in the last double crochet. Finish off.
Back closure: Weave a length of ribbon or yarn (I prefer yarn- it is much thinner and daintier) through the starting chain, pull tight until opening is closed or almost closed, tie in a bow.
Front tie: Chain 80, finish off. Weave thru Row 9 (Row next to the shell stitch row), even up ends and tie in a bow at neck.
