Shell Stitch Bonnet

Shell Stitch Crochet Bonnet Pattern~Good for Boys or Girls

This can be done with any baby yarn.

E hook=preemie size
F hook=large preemie
G hook=newborn

Ch. 44, sc in 2nd chain from hook, and in ea ch across.

Row 1: ch 3, 2 dc in same sp (making a 1/2 shell), *sk 2 sts, sc in next, sk 2 sts, 5 dc in next st (complete shell). Repeat from * , ending with 1/2 shell in last st.

Row 2: ch 1, sc in same st, *5 dc in next sc, 1 sc in center of next shell, repeat from * across, ending with 1 sc in last st.

Rows 3-8: repeat rows 1 & 2, alternating. End off.

Back Flap: Attach yarn in center of 3rd shell in the middle of the cap.

Row 1: ch 1, sc in same sp. 5 dc in next sc, 1 sc in center of next shell, ch 3, turn.

Row 2: 2 dc in same sp. 1 sc in next shell, 5 dc in next sc, 1 sc in next shell, end with 3 dc in beginning ch.

Rows 3-9: Repeat row 2. End off. Fold flap down, line up seams and whipstitch sideseams.

Beading Row: Attach yarn at bottom corner of bonnet, working around the bottom work 1 hdc in next st, ch 1, sk 1 st, 1 hdc in next st, around bottom. Then continue around front of bonnet with sc. For a boy, end off. For a girl, another round of shell st. around the outside edge using a complementary color of a thin crochet cotton thread is very delicate and pretty.

Thread a satin ribbon thru beading row for ties.
