What is Newborns in Need
Newborns in Need (NIN) started in Houston, Missouri as the mission of one woman who wanted to make a difference. Now based in Pfafftown, North Carolina, NIN is dedicated to helping make a baby’s
entrance into the world a warm and welcome event. Chapters throughout the United States make and donate baby clothes, blankets, and other essential baby items to hospitals, homeless shelters and other
organizations that provide for premature and newborn infants. All items are donated completely free of any charge.
The Indianapolis Chapter holds work meetings in three locations around Marion County. Volunteers are welcome and are encouraged to participate as they are able to provide essential items
such as blankets, quilts, burial layettes, clothing, booties, and hats. All items are donated to facilities in Indiana, primarily in Marion and surrounding counties.
Nearly 87,000 babies were born in 2006 in Indiana with roughly 12% of these babies being born into poverty. NIN, Indianapolis tries to help by providing newborn sized clothing,
blankets and other essential items to pregnancy centers and hospitals.
In 2006, Indiana State Department of Health reports 8% of babies (or about 7,000) were born weighing less than three and half pounds. The size of these precious newborns makes it
very difficult to find clothing to fit their tiny bodies. Our volunteers help by providing hats, booties and blankets to local hospitals to be given to these precious little infants and their families.
The unexpected loss of a baby can devastate lives in an instant. The hopes of a future life disappears - nothing is more tragic, more heartbreaking. Every day parents are faced with the loss
or pending loss of a tiny life, too small to wear the clothes waiting in the closet or perhaps too small even to dress. The loving hands of our volunteers provide tiny gowns and sleepers, handmade
afghans, sweet bracelets to circle little wrists and fabric envelopes or boxes to collect memories of little ones whose lives are all too short.
Newborns In Need is a non-denominational, volunteer, not-for-profit organization. We are grateful for donations from caring individuals and businesses that want to help with the efforts to
care for sick and needy babies. Precious babies should start life with every advantage possible. Your donations of time, materials, and money help alleviate the suffering of these tiny, helpless infants.
