Children of Hope

I am writing this little piece in the hope that someone who truly deserves recognition gets it. Today, I finally met one of my heroes. We have talked on the phone but never met before. His name is Tim Jaccard and is the founder of Children of Hope. These are members of the Nassau County Police Department who formed this charity to baptize and bury abandoned babies, all with the last name of Hope.

Today was the burial of Baby Angela Hope who was found in the Brookhaven landfill two months ago. This wonderful man arranged a beautiful church service in Bellport and a burial in the Island of Hope in Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury. His fellow police officers were out in force. About twenty Blue Knights on motorcycles led the procession along Sunrise Highway, Southern State, Meadowbrook Parkway and Old Country Road. What an amazing spectacle. The Suffolk County Police gave us a very well organized and dignified escort to the Nassau County border where their counterparts took over. Because of this man, Tim Jaccard, this baby was baptized and buried with dignity and a name and the outpouring of love was overwhelming.

I feel very lucky and blessed to have finally met him and was very proud to be part of this caring ceremony. I am also very proud that we supply this wonderful, yet sad, organization with burial gowns, blankets etc.

Love, Carol
