Meeting Notes from December 16, 2006

President Ruth Hoover welcomed all to our meeting with an opening prayer. A special welcome to our newest members: Carol Svihra, Diane Schweppe, and Peggy Humphreys. Carol found out about NIN through a book, Crochet For Caring & Sharing, which contains a list of charities that includes NIN. Dianne and Peggy brought a donation of dolls that they had cleaned, made new outfits for, and wrapped with netting for gifts. Dianne previously gave us dolls like this through her Girl Scout Troop. The troop is now disbanded, but she and Peggy have continued remaking the dolls. Peggy is the Director of Healthy Beginnings, which is a pregnancy and family support program.

Congratulations to Bob Hardcastle, who has accepted the job of Treasurer for our Chapter! Bob has been a volunteer for over a year now, and is a big help to us. All completed delivery forms will now go to Bob. A big thank you to Elaine Pontious, who has been our Treasurer for several years. Elaine has been transitioning her role to Bob, and will still be an active member in our Chapter. She says maybe now she will actually get to make something for the babies!

PRAYERS RECEIVED AND APPRECIATED:

Ruth Hoover continues to recover from her fall in November. Thank you for your cards, prayers, and thoughts.

IN SYMPATHY:

We were saddened to learn of the death of our member, Pat Lampston. Pat died in December from cancer. She continued to try to make items for us, even though she had not been able to attend the meetings for some time. Over the years, Pat made many items for NIN, and was always ready to make anything that was needed.

HUGE DONATION:

We have received a huge donation of yarn from Lola Peressin’s niece. The yarn was Lola’s sister’s, who has now gone to an assisted living facility, where she still has some of the yarn! This is very nice yarn, and most has several skeins of the same yarn. Marsha had sorted and organized it all. It is not “baby yarn” as such. It’s worsted weight and all colors, and will be good for afghans and blankets. There are 15 large trash bags full. She also had some partial skeins, and some needlework, and some doll heads. For those of you who knit or crochet, take plenty at the next meeting! And, please consider checking with your friends who knit and crochet for us, but can’t come to meetings. We have also received yarn from Mary Moore, and St. Luke’s Hospital, so we have plenty for your winter projects!

Additionally, we received a donation of yarn, and some unfinished baby items, from St. John’s Mercy when the November delivery was made. Barb Fleming, Clem Roeder, and Judy Giovanoni each took an afghan to finish. Lola Peressin took a sweater to finish.
