Meeting Notes from February 17, 2007

President Ruth Hoover welcomed all to our meeting with an opening prayer. A special welcome to our newest member, Mary Jane Litzsinger, who is Clem Roeder’s sister-in-law. The weather was very cold and snowy, yet we still had a good turnout!

OUR GENEROUS COMMUNITY:

Welcome Wagon chose Newborns in Need last year as one of the two charities to help, and they have given us a donation of $5320.00! This is in addition to the other fine items they gave us earlier.

Xi Xi Theta Sorority has given us some baby items, and a cash donation of $130.00! They have given us lovely baby items previously.

Schnucks is one of the participants in the eScrips Community Card program. Get a free card at Schnucks, and sign up to generate a contribution to up to three charities or schools, including Newborns in Need Home Office. If you shop at Schnucks already, this is a great way to support our community! It does not cost you anything to participate.

SHOW AND SHARE:

Ruth Hoover showed the Memory bags she made from some lovely patterned satin on sale at Joann’s.

Clem Roeder told us that the YMCA near her throws away their towels after minimal usage. These could be used as padding inside items such as changing pads or burp pads.

CURRENT NEEDS AND UPDATES:

Home Office desperately needs baby quilts.

Barnes Jewish Hospital needs 12x12 and 20x20 flannel blankets. These are for bereavement, and should be in solid, pastel colors.

Hand ‘n Hand Pregnancy Help Center needs 4 ounce bottles, brush/comb sets, bottle brushes, hooded towels, and baby spoons.

If you have Easter-themed items, please bring them to the March meeting.

St. John’s Mercy gave us several updates. They cannot use the tiny sleeveless “Butterfly” vests. For anyone making these items, please make them larger, and they can be given to another facility. They cannot use the frog positioners. They have plenty of hats and booties, and will notify us when they need more. Also, they would like the Memory bags to be larger to accommodate a booklet they enclose. These should be 12½ x 14½. They like the long-sleeved bereavement gowns with Velcro in the back.

The Ronald McDonald House has lots of shampoo and lotions, but needs deoderant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and shaving supplies. Elaine Pontious will deliver them.

Pregnancy Assistance Center in Washington loved the sweaters we sent them.
