NEW FACES AT NIN WORKDAY
Several new faces were seen at the March workday, along with some familiar ones that we haven’t seen for a while. Member Nancy Gifford brought Janet Harris and Joyce Althaus for a “sister day”. Nancy works for the Postal Service and doesn’t get to come to meetings very often, so it was a double treat to have her and her two sisters.
Knitter, Ruth Taylor, has made several blankets for our babies, but this was her first meeting – she came with member Joanne Hanson. It was thru Joanne’s connection with NIN that Ruth discovered us.
Sandy Oole came all the way from Cincinnati. Those who attended last year’s convention will remember Sandy as a cooks’ helper to her husband Tom and the other two Tom’s who prepared our meals. Sandy first came to know us through our terrific hat knitter, Herschel Johnson. She washed stuffed animals and refurbished dolls Herschel purchased at garage sales. Coming with Sandy was Elsie Johnson, another cooks’ helper, and wife of one of the other Tom’s.
Lynn Wilson found us through a pamphlet she picked up at Jo-Ann’s Fabric shop. Lynn’s daughter had twins that passed away in Pittsburgh. When she saw that we make burial layettes, she decided to join us.
Barbara Theis met Ann Marie at a Women’s Retreat. Always on the lookout for new volunteers, Ann Marie told Barbara about Nin so she came to see for herself.
Member, Cathy Wine, formerly of Zanesville and now of Newark, recently retired from the Zanesville City Schools. Cathy and her friend Margaret have been making many, many items for the babies for quite a while. Margaret retired at the end of last year and has been able to attend meetings. When Cathy saw what fun Margaret was having, she decided it was time for her to retire, also. We’re so fortunate to have these wonderful ladies in our group and are so happy they can now attend meetings regularly.
Fran Putman (you will read more about her later in newsletter) found our Chapter on the internet in Sept. 2002. Fran has sewn for NIN since then, making numerous burial buntings, booties, bibs, blankets etc. To all the new (and familiar) faces, we say, WELCOME, so glad you came.
