ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL WORK DAY

Thirty members attended our Fall workday at St. Francis de Sales Church. Everyone was busy working on projects – knitting, crocheting, sewing and pinning quilts, stuffing teddy bears and bunnies AND catching up on each other’s news.  A delicious soup/salad/sandwich lunch was provided by Paul Gassman and his band of loyal friends (the men from his Bible Study group). Ann Marie announced that this would be the last workday at St. Francis due to the success of the twice-monthly workdays at Sts. Peter & Paul Center. Ten to fourteen members have been faithfully attending these sessions, which are held the 3rd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. Sewing machines, sergers, yarn and fabric are all available in the NIN room, making material & equipment more accessible to the members. The morning starts at 9AM, with a break for lunch at Noon and then back to work until 3PM. Some stay the entire day, some come for the morning or afternoon only and some just drop in for a few minutes – all are welcome!!!

Please come and join us.

Since members bring a sack lunch to the Center, Paul and his group served their last lunch for us – we certainly thank these fine men for all they have done in the past - making our workdays more enjoyable.

This being a workday, the business meeting was quite short – here are the highlights:

  • Registration and General Info sheets for the 2008 Convention were available for those who do not have computers.
  • Our display at The Women’s Health Expo at the Reese Center received a lot of traffic – in part thanks to our two retired nurses, Janet McCleery and Phyllis Lawyer, who worked the table. Several of those stopping by said that they had been thinking of helping us. In years past most who came by had not heard of NIN. This is a definite sign that our name is “out there”. One of the ladies that stopped, Marti Ciferri, joined our workday and we were happy to have her join us.
  • Crochet yarn, patterns and needles were sent to the Scioto Juvenile Correctional Facility in Delaware, OH.  The female inmates have expressed a desire to crochet for NIN.  We are happy for their interest in giving back to the community and anxiously await their finished products.
