Thank You to our Wonderful NIN Volunteers

We received several thank you letters this month.

“Thank you so much for the donation we received this Fourth of July.  The gift packs we gave out were a big hit with the moms, and the other items like quilts and burp rags were greatly appreciated by the nursing staff.  We depend entirely on donations for our clothing items. Again, thank you for all your talent and hard work.” -- Andrea Rivera, RN, Director of Case Management, Los Nińos Hospital.

The NICU Staff, Banner Children’s Hospital in Mesa wrote: “We just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate all of the beautiful items you bring to us, particularly the most recent donation of blankets. Our families really appreciate these items and it makes all of us feel more at home.”

C. Diane Bishop, Executive Director of Maricopa Health Foundation sent a detailed list of our last donation and ended, “Thank you for your kind and generous support of the infants at Maricopa Medical Center.”

“Once again, I want to thank you sincerely for your recent donation. What beautiful work you do!! The layettes are so beautiful and so useful for our families in need. The little burial layettes, too, are so necessary for our bereaved families and the nurses that take care of the baby.  Your organization is so supportive of our hospital maternity department and we are so grateful.  The patriotic quilts, so perfect for our isolettes during this month…we use them to cover the isolettes. We were low on the knitted hats and now our basket is full in the nursery. Thank you so much!” – Vicki VandenHeuvel, RN, Chandler Regional Hospital.

Continuing Needs

St. Joseph’s Hospital needs more memory envelopes. Mini-memory envelopes are needed for Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Also needed by several hospitals are clothes for babies in NICUs (open shoulder shirts are especially needed) and medium-size preemie and newborn burial layettes (especially for boys).   THANKS!

Cash donations are always appreciated for postage and purchasing supplies that aren’t donated. Make checks payable to: Newborns in Need Mesa AZ Chapter and contact: www.newbornsinneed.org/mesa

National NIN News

Newborns in Need was 15 years old July 7th!  We have grown from one person sewing the first baby quilt out of scraps at a kitchen table, to over ten thousand volunteers across the nation blessing not only the lives of the babies we serve, but their own lives as well.

President’s Report

Our Chapter is so blessed with wonderful volunteers!  Laurie Hildebrandt’s group (Parkwood Ward, Skyline LDS Stake) had a NIN Baby Shower for us! This is of some of their group:

Volunteers at Grand Court Assisted Living recently donated several beautiful afghans, hats and booties they crocheted or knitted.  We are happy to have them working with us!

Two Tuesdays in June five members of our NIN Chapter worked with 40 students and 3 teachers in the Positive Alternatives for Youth program.  We made 8 quilts and several stuffed animals.

Brad Pew completed a very successful BSA Eagle Project recently.  He donated 30 quilts, 44 hats, cash, and baby clothes to benefit needy babies in our area. He also helped with a delivery to St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Chapter Meeting

Our next monthly meeting will be at JoAnn Fabrics, 965 S. Gilbert Road, Mesa, AZ from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, Aug. 3, 2007. We will demonstrate a Guardian Angel Afghan.  We will also tie ribbon on sets of diapers, soap, and washcloths for newborn kits.
