President Report
We received three thank-you notes this past month. Diane Bishop of Maricopa Medical Center gratefully acknowledged the LARGE donation received. Steven Schnall (Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundations VP) said “…Through the support provided by gifts like yours, (P.C.) offers crucial hope, healing and the very best care to critically ill newborns, giving them every chance for survival and a healthy life.” Suzanne Helzer and Karen Lee (Banner Desert Hospital) wrote: “Please relay our deepest appreciation to your organization who have provided the beautiful burial layettes for our bereavement program. Your time and talent is appreciated and the mementos will be treasured! Thank you again.”
We are excited to add Phoenix Children’s Hospital to our delivery list. As most of you know, sick babies are transferred here. They have requested pastel afghans, incubator-cover quilts, bereavement layettes, and a “mini” memory envelope (to be demonstrated at our July monthly meeting).

We also recently learned that St. Joseph’s Hospital has added a second NICU – they had room for 67 babies the day we took our May delivery, but they expect to serve 120 at one time by 2008!
Circle Crafters at Love of Christ Lutheran Church crocheted several beautiful afghans to help babies in our area. We are happy to have them working with us!
This summer some Mesa School District students working on service learning projects have also offered their time and talents!
Drop-Off Locations
If you can’t make it to our monthly work meeting, we have three drop-off locations. Please call for directions: Northwest Phoenix, Rachelle (623) 399-6614; Southeast Phoenix, Frances (480) 706-4317; East valley, Shirleen (480) 892-5986.

National NIN News
Effective June 12, 2007 TeLesa Lack has resigned as NIN President due to personal reasons. The NIN board of directors is being restructured. The NIN board of directors appointed Founder Richard Green as interim President. The successful leadership Richard and Carol Green provided from the beginning of NIN to when Carol resigned 4 years ago brought NIN to 2.6 million in donations handled the year she resigned, with 11,000 volunteers in 50 chapters in 26 states. Richard is willing to step in again to help with restructuring but will not be remaining in administrative positions. The restructuring taking place will allow NIN to be much stronger and poised for additional growth.
Continuing Needs
Our continuing needs are: small crocheted or knitted pastel afghans (12”, 15” or 18”), soft toys, burp-cloths (some with crocheted edging), pink washcloths, and Ivory soap. THANKS!
Cash donations are always appreciated for postage and purchasing supplies that aren’t donated. Make checks payable to: Newborns in Need Mesa AZ Chapter and contact: www.newbornsinneed.org/mesa
