Happy Birthday to Us!

We celebrated our 7th birthday as a chapter of Newborns in Need in February! From February 2001 through February 2008, we have donated 153,418 items to area hospitals and other agencies serving babies in need! Our volunteers have given 116,818.2 hours of service. Working together we are making a difference!

Thank You to our Wonderful
NIN Volunteers

We received this note via E-mail from M Kolomitz from the Little Colorado Medical Center OB Dept. “When Kathy Hardy showed up yesterday, with the most beautiful layettes we had ever laid eyes on, we were floored. It just so happened we had a newborn (native American) baby boy delivered that same morning. I went in to visit the new mom and presented your layette. The look on her face, it was pure amazement. She couldn’t believe she had received such a beautiful prize. She said to “thank-you all so much!” She told me she and her husband were excited about their baby but didn’t have much. They live on the reservation with extended family. Mom and baby were discharged today, and guess what the new little guy was wearing?  All decked out in blue heaven. Forgive me for going on and on, but we can’t thank you enough! Again, thank you all…your hard work and generosity is greatly appreciated.”

Connie Edwards, Newborns in Need National President, forwarded this very touching message to us: “Just wanted to say thank you for all you do there. On Monday, February 25th, at 5am my wife gave birth to our baby girl, Juliet Rose Stidd. My wife was only 18 weeks pregnant and the paramedics transported her and the baby to a local hospital (St. Josephs in Phoenix, AZ.) where our daughter fought to survive for two and a half hours but she passed away at 7:20 a.m. During her time with us the hospital provided a knitted blanket, cap, and booties that were made by someone in your organization. It means so much to us that she was warm and comfortable for her short time here with us. When we left the hospital they gave us these items for us to keep and it means so much to have these keepsakes of her life. I just wanted to say thank you and that you are all angels in our eyes.” Matthew and Amanda Stidd

We received notes from three moms at Phoenix Indian Medical Center. Tiffanie wrote: “Thank you very much for the gift. I am very grateful. Thank God there is someone as caring as you. God bless.” Petra wrote: “Thank you so much 4 the layette set. It is so beautiful and I know my baby will enjoy it.” Crystal wrote: “I would just like to say thank you. God bless you. Thank you.”

Thank You, Continued

“Thank you for your kind and generous support of the infants at Maricopa Medical Center,” wrote Diane Bishop. She mentioned the receiving blankets, positioning snakes, kangaroo wraps, quilts, beanie babies, flannel receiving blankets, baby toys, and diaper shirts we donated.

Judy Fritz from Phoenix Baptist Hospital sent a note and included some pictures of babies in our burial layettes. She wrote: “I just took all those bags of wonderful handmade baby clothes, blankets, hats, booties and quilts into the nursery and the night and day-shift nurses were in the middle of report. They wondered where I got all the bags and was it Christmas! Our shelves that usually accommodate these things were bare. There are eight sick babies in there this morning. Now they’ll be nice and cozy with your donation. Thanks so much for all you do ladies, and I won’t wait so long to call for more supplies.”

Vicky Vandenheuvel, R.N. at Chandler Regional Hospital, called “to thank everyone for everything you give us. The items are so appreciated and make such a difference for families who don’t have anything.”

We so appreciate all those who took the time to write us – the stories make it all worthwhile!
