Happy New Year!

 

We were very busy during 2006. We added another hospital as a regular delivery. We had two members attend the NIN convention in Ohio.  We delivered a total of 7183 items for the 2006 calendar year.  We also celebrated our 5th year as an official chapter of Newborns in Need!

 

We continue to deliver preemie layettes, full-term layette sets and sadly, burial layettes.  Our hospitals are most appreciative of everything we do.  One of our hospitals put a few of our items on display last October during National Bereavement month.

 

We continue to receive all sorts of donations from monetary to fabric to new & gently used clothing. It seems anytime we really need something it suddenly arrives. We are so thankful for all who have generously donated to the Southern Maryland Chapter.

Lately…

 

At the end of November, the Southern Maryland Chapter got together with the Teen Girl Scout Troops 0042 and 3987.

 

The scouts bought fleece which they then cut into blankets and fringed. While some girls did that others made fleece hats with the remnants. Others worked on sewing machines and sergers making knit pants. Still other girls cut and serged knit hats. Then they rotated “stations” so each scout did each project.

 

As a field trip to complete their Service Project they made our delivery to a local hospital.  The girls made a total of 98 fleece blankets, 16 fleece hats, 9 knit pants and 11 knit hats.

As we celebrate our 5th full year as a Chapter of Newborns In Need, we need to give a very special thank you to a wonderful group of ladies who have generously donated their time and talents to our chapter.  They are the Knit-Wits from Prince George’s County, MD. Through the  years they have donated countless hats, booties and blankets to our chapter. Their tireless effort to help us and others in our community is greatly appreciated.
