NEW VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME!
How can you help?
1) If you sew, knit or crochet, get involved in making baby blankets. The most needed size is for newborn babies –
36” x 36” – in pastel colors or baby print flannel. You can make them a single thickness and hem the edges like a receiving blanket, or make them double thickness. Or a 36” square
of fleece with satin binding is also good. Sizes apply to crocheted or knitted blankets as well. For crocheted or knitted items, please use white or pastel yarn that is washable and dryable and use a
tighter stitch so as not to catch little fingers or toes. You may use your own patterns or patterns are available at our meetings and on the national website at www.newbornsinneed.org
2) If you don’t sew, knit or crochet, still come to the meetings as we always need help in sorting, boxing and delivering
the donations, or you might help on a non-sewing project.
3) In addition, help is needed for other administrative tasks like fundraising, publicity, membership, newsletter, etc.
4) Or if you only want to help one time, hold a diaper drive or “baby shower” at your organization or
church and collect new baby clothing like onesies, sleepers and gowns (sizes preemie, NB or 0-3 months), diapers (size newborn to 3), infant formula, shampoo, lotion, etc., and donate it to NIN. We’ll
see it gets to the right place in the community.
5) Donate fabric suitable for baby clothing, i.e., poly-cotton, flannel, fleece, knit, satin and sewing supplies.
Donate soft baby yarn (Bernat “Softee Baby” or Lion Brand “Baby Soft”) in pastels and white only, please, and it must be washable and dryable.
6) Donate new and stain-free gently used newborn clothing and blankets. We accept sizes from preemie to Toddler Size 2.
7) And, of course, a monetary donation in ANY amount (no amount is too small) is always welcome, as we rely totally on charitable
donations for our supplies. Please make checks payable to NEWBORNS IN NEED and mail to the address below. Gift cards to Wal Mart, Hancock Fabric, A.C. Moore, or Michaels are also greatly
appreciated.
We have the “woman-power” to make the things we can, but we don’t always have the supplies we need. And
sometimes things must be purchased which cannot be made, like diapers, baby lotion, formula, bottles, crib mattress, etc.
As you may know, the need for baby blankets, clothing and supplies is very great in the low country. Our Chapter is part of a
national nonprofit organization which strives to create baby items for those in need. It is through the generosity and support of people like you that we are able to continue to do this charitable work.
Donations may be sent to:
Brenda Kanehl, President Charleston SC Chapter NEWBORNS IN NEED 617 Beauregard Rd Summersville, SC 29483
All financial donations are tax deductible and go directly to help the babies. You can help make a difference in this world –
one baby at a time! Thanks!
